Woolpets

Over the weekend we had a dry needle felting class here at The Knitter’s Studio. It was my first time dry needle felting, and it was incredibly fun! I was surprised by how quickly the wool roving turned into adorable critters. The animal kits are from Woolpets, and each one contains plenty of roving, detailed instructions and everything else you need to make a fuzzy creature of your own.

I made the panda and Liz made the adorable sheep. We can’t stop talking about these little guys, they are so cute!

If you missed out on this class, don’t worry! We will be doing another in October, so keep an eye on the classes page next month.

Narvik in Cocoon

Knitting projects are flirtatious creatures.

Don’t you want to knit me? they say. Just pick up some of that yarn and cast me on.

No, I protest. I’m working on these socks for my aunt and a baby sweater for the newborn of a best friend…

Come on, they pout, those projects aren’t making you happy. You know it’d be different with me.

I saw a picture of Narvik even before the magazine came out and fell in love. Simple, cabled, and in my favorite kind of colors. I tried to resist, but none of my other projects measured up. They weren’t as soft, as fuzzy, as cabled. They weren’t what I wanted.

I gave in. I was done in less than a month.

Cocoon is a combination of mohair and wool spun into a thick yarn that knits up delightfully fast on 10 1/2 needles. It debut last year with a half-dozen colors after my own heart, greys, blacks, browns. This year they have expanded into more colors and put out a new Rowan Cocoon Book well worth perusing.

My Narvik has come to spend the winter in the store, come and check it out next time you’re in!

The pattern for Narvik is in both Rowan 42 and Vogue Holiday 2007 (done in the browns).
