Heather Dixon grew up in Nottingham, England, where she taught herself to knit at an early age. She got a Degree in Knitwear Design from The Nottingham Trent University.
Heather moved to New York, where she created designs for both indie companies and major design houses before deciding to start Army of Knitters and create her own patterns.
We fell in love with her unique, couture style. Her collections are cohesive and inspired.
The Army of Knitters Spring 2011 collection is called Flamenco (selections of which you can find here, along with previous AOK patterns) and features the bikini top Caliente which I made as a store sample (shown in at left in Navy — fun to knit and only two tiny seams!).
The Flamenco collection also includes the Baile skirt (short version pictured at right), which, paired with the Caliente top and some strappy sandals would make the ultimate sassy summer ensemble.
The Summer 2011 collection, Pretty Baby, is all done in white yarns and was modeled after Victorian style undergarments. The bustier, Violet (shown here), is a prime example of this collection’s strong yet feminine aesthetic.
We will be getting the Pretty Baby collection soon, check back at our Army of Knitters pattern page.
We can’t wait to see what Army of Knitters comes up with next!
