This adorable hat is knit in the round on big needles so it can be whipped out in one evening. Knit with Katia Fabula, a superwash merino… so soft! The earflaps are knit first and then held on double points and added as you knit the brim.

Adult Size: 22”
Materials:
Katia Fabula (50 gram/38 yards)
2 balls
US #15, 16” circular
US #15, set of four DPNs
Notions:
Stitch marker, darning needle, size M crochet hook (optional, for edge trimming)
Gauge:
2.5 stitches = 1 inch in stockinette st

M1: add one stitch by placing a backward loop of yarn on the left (working) needle
Pattern
Earflaps (make 2):
For both sizes: With two DPNs (working flat), CO 2 stitches, leaving a tail of at least 10 inches.
Row 1: K1, M1, K1
Row 2 and all even rows: K across
Row 3: K1, M1, K1, M1, K1
Row 5: K1, M1, K3, M1, K1
Row 7: K1, M1, K5, M1, K1
Row 9: Child size: K4, M1 K5
Adult size: K1, M1, K7, M1, K1
Row 11: Knit all sts
Set aside, using remaining DPNs for second earflap.
Brim:
With circular needle, CO 5 sts, knit across first earflap, CO 12 (14) sts with backward loop cast on method, knit across second earflap, CO 6 with backward loop cast on method. You now have 43 (47) sts.
PM and join in the round, being careful not to twist. Work 5 (7) rounds in garter st (knit one round, purl one round). On the last round, end with K2TOG. 42 (46) sts remain.
Crown:
Work ten rounds plain (knit every stitch), and then begin decreases.
Round 1 (set-up round): remove st marker, K4 (5), replace marker, K2TOG, K29 (31), K2TOG, K to end
Round 2 and all even rounds: K all sts
Round 3: *K2TOG, K8 (9) repeat from *.
Round 5: *K2TOG, K7 (8) repeat from *
Round 7: *K2TOG, K6 (7) repeat from *
Round 9: *K2TOG, K5 (6) repeat from *
Round 11: * K2TOG, K4 (5) repeat from *
Round 13: * K2TOG, K3 (4) repeat from *
Round 15: *K2TOG, K2 (3) repeat from *
Round 17: *K2TOG, K1 (2) repeat from *
Round 19: *K2TOG (K2TOG, K1) repeat from *
Row 21(Adult Only): *K2TOG all around
Finishing:
On last 4 sts knit 3 rounds of I-cord. Cut yarn leaving a 6” tail. With darning needle thread yarn tail through last 4 sts and through top and inside of hat.
Cut 2-3 20” lengths of yarn and thread through bottom back of the earflaps. Braid together with the tail from earflap cast on.
Optional: Add a single crochet stitch with a size M crochet hook along bottom edge of hat and earflaps if desired.
