Heidi Kirrmaier (PipiBird on Ravelry) is a knitwear designer from Calgary, Alberta, in Canada. She’s been knitting for most of her life, among other crafty pursuits.

In a way, Heidi has always been a designer; her mother taught her the concept of gauge and neither of them ever followed patterns for their knitting until Heidi discovered the myriad knitting resources online. Ravelry, of course, made everything even more accessible, and users asked Heidi for the pattern for a summer top she’d knitted for herself. This became Buttercup, a free pattern on Ravelry (left).
Heidi’s most popular pattern is Peasy, a cardigan with 3/4 sleeves and a panel of lace, suitable for an adventurous beginner who is familiar with top down raglan construction. Peasy is pictured at right.
Her most recent pattern is Vitamin D, a swingy cardigan featuring classic raglan shaping for the sleeves, and radial eyelet increases for the back. The rounded front edges are shaped with more eyelet increases, as well as short rows. Vitamin D is pictured at left.
We are thrilled to be debuting Heidi’s next pattern, Shellseeker, knitted in Spud and Chloe Sweater. Look for it in our booth at Vogue Knitting Live!
