Kira Dulaney, aka Kira K Designs, grew up outside Burlington, Vermont, in a small town with just two stop lights and no yarn store. She first learned the basics of crochet around age three and knitting around five. Her attention soon moved to cross stitch, sewing, and other crafty pursuits, then she re-taught herself to knit while in college, where she studied costume design; she worked as a costume designer for several years, and in 2007 launched her line of knitting and crochet patterns.
She now lives in Oakland, California, which is home several yarn stores (and a lot of traffic lights). She teaches knitting and crochet and designs knit and crochet patterns full time. She also dabbles in spinning, sewing, and weaving.
Kira’s non-fiber passion is cooking and baking–she loves to host dinner parties, and cooks world cuisines including Indian, Ethiopian, Italian, Thai, and Japanese.
Kira’s most iconic patterns is her Sawtooth Skirt, a swingy a-line skirt with an interesting lace border, flattering to most women. It’s her biggest LYS seller as well as being popular online. The Sawtooth Skirt is pictured at left.
Her Helix Gloves, pictured at right, are also quite popular. They feature half-fingers and eyelets that wrap around the hands, ending coyly twined around the index fingers.
Kira’s most recent pattern is the Clematis Cloche. It’s a classic cloche shape in a textured stitch, complete with instructions for making a felt and button flower embellishment. Clematis is pictured at left.
Kira’s designs all draw influence from the 1920s-1960s, and have a sleek look and feel influenced in part by 
Danish Modern sensibilities, learned from growing up around Danish Modern furniture designed by her great-uncle and great-grandfather.
